The Route

Posted in Generalby Chris Mann

Day One – Wednesday 7th

Phoenix to Globe. Via Miami – I’m confused already. Didn’t I change planes there on my way to Phoenix? A different Miami? Oh.

Miami and Globe are copper mining towns. We’ll also probably check out Roosevelt Lake.

Day Two – Thursday 8th

Globe to Flagstaff. First we head north on route 60 to Snowflake. Trivia fact: the town of Snowflake was founded in 1878 by William Jordan Flake and Erastus Snow, two Mormon settlers. So the name is nothing to do with the weather – I hope! Then via Winslow – where of course we will be “standin’ on a corner in Winslow Arizona”, just like The Eagles. If there’s time, one place on my list for this part of the trip is the famous Meteor Crater.

Day Three – Friday 9th

Flagstaff to Prescott. Sedona is on the agenda for today – The Red Rocks of the Sedona area will no doubt be high on the list of things to photograph. One rock formation is supposed to look like Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoon, so I’ll watch out for that one for you.

Apparently Sedona has the only McDonald’s in the world with teal-colored arches (instead of golden) – it seems the city planners felt that the yellow would clash with the red rocks…

Day Four – Saturday 10th

Prescott to Carefree. It seems Prescott is home to the world’s largest Gingerbread village, and the much more interesting-sounding “Whiskey Row” historical district.

And finally, along a scenic back route through Wickenburg to Carefree, where the DWF Convention is being held.
