We are in Globe!
Posted in News by Chris Mann
Globe AZ of course… after our intrepid journey through the Superstition Mountains along the Apache Trail, past Canyon Lake, over Fish Creek and past Roosevelt Lake and the Roosevelt Dam, we are now making a well-earned overnight stop in Globe, Arizona, a town that seems mainly to consist of cheap motels, burger places and used car lots.
It may look nicer in daylight.
After collecting Jésus from Phoenix Airport we headed east out of town on I-60 and then turned north-east on to Apache Trail, a road that twists and turns up into the mountains, eventually becoming a slightly hair-raising single-lane dirt track with no guard rails and often a sheer drop into a canyon. Fortunately there wasn’t much traffic in either direction.
Power lines marching across the landscape spoiled the view a bit in some places, but hey, that’s what Photoshop is for!
Never having been to Arizona before it was all new to me, and all I can say is wow! Spectacular mountains and cliffs and canyons, with saguaro cactus everywhere, and no human habitation in sight apart from the occasional viewpoint designed for tourists and the boating facilities at the lakes.
CF cards are downloading right now – I’ll post a few pictures once I’ve done a quick initial edit.

Can’t wait to see some photos. This is like having a second Christmas:0)
Arizona is my favorite place on the planet! Virtually any environement you might want to place yourself into is within a few hours’ drive of wherever (in Arizona) you already are. Mountains (with or without snow), pine forests, plains, desert, waterfront – they’re all there!
Speaking of Fish Creek, there are some caves in the area. One large one, aptly named “Fish Creek Cave”, is where I and some family and friends had our Thanksgiving dinner (well, cookout, actually) back in 1999 when I was still living in AZ. It was, hands down, the simplest, yet most fun Thanksgiving ever!
